Fight Obesity With Creative Workouts

Traditional exercise recommendations aren’t working! Two out of three adults are overweight or obese and childhood obesity numbers are growing.
I get a lot of fitness publications sent to me and recently I have noticed companies marketing scaled-down fitness equipment for kids. Meaning, typical weight machines or treadmills which are kid size.
If we can’t get the average adult to use these types of equipment than why does anyone think kids are going to enjoy using them? We need to look for a more creative solution, both for kids and adults!
Which is why you see plenty of non-traditional exercise equipment featured on this blog. Even though I am a fitness professional, I am also ADD and the thought of spending 45-60 minutes walking on a treadmill to nowhere, just doesn’t appeal to me.
And judging by all the overweight people in our society, it doesn’t appeal to them either. That, or the relatively low intensity used by many people doing this form of exercise doesn’t burn that many calories.
I love hiking in the woods or walking on the beach, or a long bike ride here along the Mississippi River – all outdoor activities.
I recently saw an interesting video on rope training for high school students that looks like a great workout with plenty of creativity. Combine it with some other forms of exercise and you’ve got a workout that will fight obesity without taking much time to do it.
